A Thousand Days

A Thousand Days
Only 22 percent of the people living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have access to clean water. Women wake up in the middle of the night to make the dangerous trek to small springs that are located miles away. Despite these efforts, many still become sick and sometimes die after drinking contaminated water. But in one community, people spent 1,000 long days digging the trenches for 18 miles (29 km) of pipe, that would bring clean water closer to home.
