A Desolate Land Blossoms

Severe winds, drought, alkaline soils, and erosion problems make the ground in the Navajo and Hopi reservations hostile to growing food. With provident living classes and gardening training, many people on these reservations are successfully growing the food they need in order to become self-reliant. Through their experiences, these families have realized that they are not just being fed but also strengthened. Just as the seeds grow, their families grow closer by laboring in the gardens together.
