LDS Charities responds to emergencies throughout the world on a regular basis. Below is a list of our most recent efforts.

Shelter Kits in Iraq

In partnership with ShelterBox USA, LDS Charities purchased one thousand Mobile ShelterKits and one thousand Shelter Sealing-Off Kits for displaced families in Iraq. ShelterBox helped to distribute and assemble the kits. The shelters provide a temporary, immediate relief to those who lack access to shelter or who require short-term repair solutions to existing dwellings.

Cyclone Mora Relief in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh

Cyclone Mora made landfall in Sri Lanka on May 30, 2017 with winds of up to 70 miles per hour. It brought torrential monsoon rains, flooding and landslides that affected thousands of people in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. In partnership with the Adventist Developlement and Relief Agency (ADRA), LDS Charities contributed to the relief efforts in Sri Lanka by supplying one thousand kits containing plates, cups, plastic jugs, eating utensils, knives, pots and lids, storage containers, plastic sheeting and matches. In addition, one thousand sanitation kits containing bed sheets, mosquito net, towels, bucket, water cups, soap, tooth brushes and sanitary pads were distributed. In Bangladesh, ADRA distributed five thousand food baskets containing rice, lentils, oil and sugar.

Food and clothing for Refugee Camps in Bulgaria

LDS Charities provided food and clothing to the Council for Refugee Women (CRW) in Bulgaria. These supplies were distributed to refugees living in three refugee centers in Sofia. The CRW is a NGO partner of UNHRC that provides relief to approximately 1,600 refugees, including 48 expectant mothers.

Medical Sets for Syria

In conjunction with the emergency response arm of the Turkish government, LDS Charities purchased and assembled three medicine sets in Turkey to deliver to camps along the demilitarized zone in Syria. The project helps to protect and provide for Syrian refugees on the Turkish side.
